PL&B Roundtable on International Transfers leads to a Memo to the Data Minister on new legislation
PL&B has sent a memo to Julia Lopez, Data Minister, resulting from our Roundtable on 3 October with industry and law firms, in cooperation with Norton Rose Fulbright, London.
The briefing by DCMS policy staff at the Privacy Laws & Business Roundtable on International Data Transfers provided substantive information on how the DCMS’s International Division is preparing for the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill when it returns to Parliament. The focus was on the UK government’s work with many other countries and jurisdictions rather than the minutiae of the Bill.
Points covered in the Memo
The idea of developing the law by a process of “co-design” is attractive and was supported by the participants, specialist data protection lawyers and managers from law firms and companies. The International Data Transfers Expert Council, which has members from different countries, was also seen to provide valuable contributions and advice to the government.
