DCMS call for views on representative action
Could the UK be heading for class action style data protection litigation? By Benjamin Slinn of Baker & McKenzie LLP.
On 27 August 2020 the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) published a call for views and evidence in relation to review of representative action provisions, in connection with Section 189 of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DP Act 2018). The closing date for responses to the call for views was 22 October 2020.
Under Section 189 of the DP Act 2018, the government is required to review the operation of the representative action provisions in the DP Act 2018 and provide a report to Parliament by 25 November 2020. This call for views is part of the government’s effort to consult with stakeholders before laying that report before Parliament.
