GPA conference discusses critical global issues

Global DPAs from 130+ countries adopted resolutions on achieving global DP standards, on AI and employment, and on generative AI. Laura Linkomies brings you conference highlights from Bermuda.

The 45th Global Privacy Assembly, organised by the Bermuda Privacy Commissioner’s Office, debated many of the current, global themes in privacy. Questions included how do we address privacy risks posed by AI, where are we going with international data transfer agreements, how to cooperate with other regulators and how to avoid data scraping from publicly available sources?

The conference was opened by a Privacy Laws & Business-led panel which discussed privacy law developments in the Caribbean community. The themes were establishing a DPA office and starting out as a new regulator, raising awareness of a new privacy law and what can the region learn from experiences elsewhere (slides, video, texts of laws and more).
