AI and the Metaverse
What are the challenges with Generative AI, and how will it enhance the metaverse? Gabrielle Hornshaw of the University of Nottingham reports.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has exploded in popularity since the early 2010s when deep learning emerged properly.(1) Since then, training of algorithms has improved, models have become larger (approximately 170 trillion parameters in OpenAI’s GPT 4), and data for training them has become more abundant than ever. AI’s impact on life today is substantial, and this will only continue as we move forward into an increasingly data-driven, online, and interconnected world - one that could be characterised as the “metaverse”.
At the Privacy Law & Business 36th Annual International Conference Karen Silverman, CEO and Founder of The Cantellus Group, and Fiona Maclean, Partner at Latham & Watkins gave their perspectives on the challenges with generative AI and the metaverse, and some of the issues with its governance.
