Norway’s DPA encourages and invites sandbox applications
The aim is to stimulate the development and use of ethical and responsible artificial intelligence whilst keeping privacy in mind from the start. By Stewart Dresner and Laura Linkomies.
Norway’s sandbox initiative has been created to help innovative companies develop new products in a safe space. The regulatory sandbox should increase companies’ understanding of the privacy regulatory requirements, and how AI-based products and services can meet the requirements of these regulations in practice. Examples and experiences from the sandbox must be communicated to benefit companies other than those which participate.
Whilst companies in the sandbox are not exempt from complying with DP regulations, the DPA has no intention of implementing corrective measures during the period in which the organisations participate in the sandbox. The focus is on helping participants comply with the regulations.
