Data protection and Artificial Intelligence in the spotlight
The CPDP conference discussed the privacy threats of AI, facial recognition and a few GDPR specific topics as well. Laura Linkomies reports from Brussels.
The GDPR and new technologies is a topic that still generates much discussion. While the GDPR is intended to be technology neutral, the Council of the European Union is now questioning whether there should be amendments to the regulation to make sure that new technologies, invented since the GDPR was drafted, should be specifically included (see p.10).
However, speaking at the CPDP conference at the end of January, Karolina Mojzesowicz, DG Justice European Commission, said that while the issue of new technologies will be looked at, the majority of feedback received so far to the EU Commission’s review of the GDPR indicates that stakeholders do not advocate major changes to the regulation.
