EU proposal for EU Inc: Fully digital operations throughout a company's lifecycle

The EU Commission has proposed a new single set of corporate rules that will apply across the EU. The proposal, coined EU Inc, includes optional, fully digital procedures that would enable innovative companies to scale up and incentivise them to stay in Europe, the Commission says.

The proposal is aimed at unlocking the true potential of the single market, driving growth and increasing competitiveness. For example, companies can freely choose the EU country in which they incorporate. There would also be maximum digitalisation of interactions between companies and public authorities.

Speaking in the US on 16 April, European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath said that EU Inc would be a single corporate law rulebook for a company that will have the term 'EU Inc.' at the end of its name to make it recognisable within the EU. He said that the regime will be established by a regulation.
