Common law legal culture drives two international DPA organisations

Stewart Dresner reports on the work of the British, Irish and Islands Data Protection Authorities (BIIDPA), and the Commonwealth Common Thread Network (CTN).

British, Irish and Islands Data Protection Authorities (BIIDPA) is a flourishing well-established group which brings together Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) with close historical affinities reflected in their common law legal and cultural traditions. Some of the ten DPA members are in the EU (Cyprus, Ireland and Malta) but most are not (Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Gibraltar, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Jersey, and the United Kingdom).

The members of BIIDPA have an annual in-person meeting and additional online meetings. The host prepares the agenda which typically covers common issues, practices and procedures.
