Privacy Officers and Data Protection Officers (DPOs) are two common roles in privacy-minded organisations, particularly where UK GDPR or GDPR compliance is required. However, the “officer” role is only one component of the privacy ecosystem. In addition to officers, whose role focuses on risk and compliance, in-house privacy teams usually include privacy lawyers who focus on laws and regulations. The past several years have seen the rise of the privacy engineer, responsible for building privacy into systems and products.
