Valuable Data, Priceless Privacy
Laura Linkomies provides a snapshot of the three days with 30 stimulating sessions at the Privacy Laws & Business conference in Cambridge.
PL&B’s 37th Annual International Conference Valuable Data, Priceless Privacy gathered together 80+ speakers from 17 countries in Cambridge 1-3 July. The title of the conference was reflected in many of the sessions which addressed the tension between these two concepts. Other themes included enforcement cooperation, surveillance, children’s privacy and certification, just to name a few.
Opening the conference, Stewart Dresner, Founder and Chief Executive of Privacy Laws & Business, drew attention to the ICO’s strong position globally.
He said “Despite Brexit, the UK is not isolated from the rest of the international privacy law ecosystem and the ICO does not sit on the sidelines. Instead, John Edwards and his team have continued working actively with their counterparts in the European Economic Area Member States and in other fora, such as the OECD, the Council of Europe, and the G7. The G7’s data protection working group includes the European Commission and the OECD. They met in Japan and will meet again later this year in Italy.”
