ICO steps up its FOI work
As identified in the ICO25 strategy for the next three years, the ICO intends to make the following changes to the way it processes FOI requests:
- Agile approach to FOI appeals – move more quickly, recognising that it is important to provide a timely outcome, and respecting that the Tribunal may not always agree with the ICO’s decision.
- Prioritising FOI complaints – not dealing with every FOI complaint or appeal in the same way, but make objective decisions to prioritise the ICO’s work based on open and transparent criteria and public interest.
- Better FOI – the ICO will run a programme of activity to ensure that its work on FOI is as efficient and effective as possible, with more upstream regulation and systemic enforcement to improve frontline services.
