Demystifying EU Digital Identity for DPOs – eIDAS2 and beyond

Digital identity will play a critical role in digital transformation as countries and people work to integrate their offline lives more fully into the online world. The EU is charging ahead with EU Digital Identity Wallets (EUDIWs) and digital identity systems under a re-vamped Electronic Identification, Authentication, and Trust Services (eIDAS) regulation that promises “a safe, reliable, and private means of digital identification for everyone in Europe” where individuals control their data.(1) Private sector actors will have greater opportunity to participate in eIDAS2 provided they meet and sustain high minimum standards for privacy, security, interoperability and user-centricity.
