Sovereign infrastructure and the EU’s issues with US tech

The phrase “sovereign infrastructure” refers to the requirements of a sovereign territory – whether that be an individual state, or a grouping of individual states like the European Union – to be able to control the digital assets that it uses – including its hardware, software, and data – and the services provided by such assets.
Those leading the European Union have become increasingly concerned about the reliance of the digital infrastructure of the EU upon a few massive US tech companies and about the apparent inability of EU based companies to be able to respond to those concerns and compete with the US incumbents.
