Global privacy commissioners adopt resolutions on AI
Laura Linkomies reports from the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA) in Korea which heard from many regulators on how they think AI should be dealt with under the DP umbrella.
The global privacy commissioners’ annual conference is known to point out the direction of travel for future work and priorities. Albeit restricted in forming a consensus in some of the more controversial matters due to its membership(1) spanning some 140 authorities and economies, the resolutions that are adopted bear much weight. The GPA includes all long-established privacy commissions but also some financial centres and newly established authorities with Uganda and Zimbabwe being examples of more recent joiners. The US has been represented by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC, since 2010) and the California Privacy Protection Agency (since 2022). Many international organisations and bodies such as the OECD and the European Commission are observers(2), but the European Data Protection Supervisor is a member.
