Israel’s law revision introduces a novel way of calculating fines

In August 2024 the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset approved a major amendment to the Israeli Privacy Protection Law, 1981 (PPL) which will enter into force in August 2025. The amendment is a comprehensive overhaul to the regulatory enforcement powers of the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority (PPA), Israel’s Data Protection Authority. Amendments also include the introduction of the mandatory appointment of a Data Protection Officer and updates to several key data protection terms (such as Personally Identifiable Information, Controller), to better align with the EU General Data ­Protection Regulation (GDPR).
