5G telecommunications: Friend or foe of privacy?

At Winds of Change, the Privacy Laws and Business 35th Anniversary International Conference 2022 in early July, Javier Fernández-Samaniego of Samaniego Law outlined the future for 5G and its implications for privacy.

His session offered a primer on the technical capabilities of 5G networks and technologies, key 5G use cases, and current regulatory approaches, including the approach taken by the Spanish Data Protection Authority.

While he offered reasons to be optimistic about the technology’s benefits, he also mentioned concerns, particularly around security, that are starting to attract regulatory attention.
