UK Freedom of Information E-news - May 2010
1. Minister appointed for Freedom of Information
PL&B has learned that the Minister of State responsible for Freedom of Information at the Ministry of Justice will be Lord McNally, a Liberal Democrat. Lord Tom McNally was a member of the House of Lords Select Committee on the Draft Freedom of Information Bill in 1999. The Committee conducted hearings and produced a report that was sharply critical of many provisions in the bill, which was later introduced by the Labour Government and became the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
A profile of Lord McNally and prospects for freedom of Information will appear in the July/August issue of Privacy Law & Business UK.
