1. Deutsche Bahn fined 1.1 million Euros for employee monitoring

On 19 October the Berlin data protection commissioner, Otto Dix, imposed a fine of 1.1 million Euros on Deutsche Bahn, the national rail operator, for monitoring 173,000 of its 240,000 employees, and their relatives, for several years. The surveillance was to see if they had contact with suppliers and competitors, as part of an anti-corruption campaign.
