New Chair and Vice-Chairs of the EU Art. 29 Data Protection Working Party elected this morning



Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, the President of France’s CNIL was this morning elected as Chair of the EU Art. 29 Data Protection Working Party, the group where the 28 national Data Protection Authorities in the European Union co-ordinate their policies. This morning’s 94th plenary meeting also elected as 1st Vice-Chair, Dr Wojciech Wiewiórowski, the President of GIODO, Poland’s Data Protection Authority, and as 2nd Vice-Chair, Gérard Lommel, the President of Luxembourg’s Data Protection Commission, the Commission nationale pour la protection des données (CNPD).

Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin and Dr Wojciech Wiewiórowski both spoke at Privacy Laws & Business’s Annual International Conference in Cambridge in 2012. Privacy Laws & Business held a Roundtable with Gérard Lommel and the other commissioners in Luxembourg in May 2008 ; with the CNIL in Paris in April 2011 ; and with Dr Wojciech Wiewiórowski and his colleagues in Warsaw in March 2012. Dr Wojciech Wiewiórowski is the head of the most influential Data Protection Authority in Central and Eastern Europe. One of the reasons for this position is that his office provides the secretariat for the Central and Eastern Europe Data Protection Authorities.
