1. Asia-Pacific Enforcement network launched
Following several DP Commissioners’ move to start a Global Privacy Enforcement Network, some Asia-Pacific countries have now, on 16 July, launched a Cross-Border Privacy Enforcement Cooperation Arrangement (CPEA). The CPEA creates a framework for regional cooperation and any Privacy Enforcement Authority in the Asia-Pacific area may participate.
The CPEA’ s first participants are the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Australia, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for New Zealand and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
The appointment of Timothy Pilgrim - longstanding Deputy Commissioner - as Australia’s new Privacy Commissioner, was announced this week.
