ICO consults on data ethics

The ICO is currently seeking views on the role of data ethics in complying with the GDPR.

The ICO would like to hear by 31 December from organisations currently applying ethics in their policies, processes and written procedures. Is data ethics integrated into existing decision-making processes? Has your organisation established a ‘Data Ethics Board’?

The ICO confirms that the GDPR’s principles are implicitly ethical. Considering data ethics helps data controllers to determine what is a right or wrong when processing personal data, the ICO says.

The survey - Stakeholders can also comment anonymously.

The ICO’s Data Ethics Adviser, Technology and Innovation, Ellis Parry, will speak at 2pm, Thursday 10 December at PL&B’s 33rd Annual International Conference on the topic ‘The only way is Ethics’.
