Data (Use and Access) Act commencement dates published
The UK government has issued the commencement dates for various parts of the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 [DUAA], starting from 20 August 2025.
DUAA commencement regulations will apply from this date on:
- Technical provisions
- New statutory objectives for the Information Commissioner’s Office when carrying out its functions
- Provisions requiring the government to prepare a progress update and a report on copyright works and artificial intelligence systems.
The second, third and fourth stages will then follow. The government says that Stage Three, approximately 6 months after Royal Assent (which took place 19 June), will include the commencement of the main changes to data protection legislation in Part 5 of the Act.
