Christopher Graham elected as Vice Chair of the EU Article 29 DP Working Party

The EU’s Data Protection Working Party, at its meeting of 1-2 February, elected the UK Information Commissioner, Christopher Graham, as its Vice Chair. The other Vice Chair is Igor Nemec, President of the of the Czech Republic's Office for Personal Data Protection. Jacob Kohnstamm, Chairman of the Dutch Data Protection Authority, was re-elected as Chairman. Both terms of Chair and Vice-Chair are for two years.

The EU Commission’s proposals for a Data Protection Regulation, announced on 25 January, would change the name and status of the Working Group to the ‘‘European Data Protection Board,’’ with a secretariat provided by the European Data Protection Supervisor ( EDPS). The board would be required to ensure consistent application of the Regulation across the EU Member States.
