What is the optimum structure for data protection management in multinational companies?

Morning - Prospects for data breach laws in Europe

To help our discussions, Privacy Laws & Business has hired a law graduate researcher to explore during January the views of the EU member states' Data Protection Authorities on adopting data breach laws about the loss or theft of personal data in their countries.

Afternoon - What is the optimum structure for data protection management in multinational companies?

We will report on a survey conducted last year by Elaine Farmer at BT of a group of multinational companies, without revealing their identities. The results show a wide spectrum of management approaches from centralised to decentralised. How do the different management styles work and where does your company fit into this spectrum? What problems do you face with your structure and what alternatives do you favour?
