Accommodation

When booking your conference tickets you can add accommodation to your booking and stay on campus on in a St John's College student room. Please note: St John's College only has a limited number of rooms available this year.

Alternatively, you can organise your own accommodation. There are a couple of hotels close by to St John’s College, which is right in the centre of town.

Trains

From Kings Cross, London, to Cambridge, trains run up to 4 times an hour. The journey takes between 45 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes depending on whether you are on a fast or slow train. Kings Cross Station is next to St. Pancras Eurostar Station – very useful if you are travelling to London by train from Paris or Brussels.

From Liverpool Street, London, to Cambridge, trains run up to 4 times an hour. The journey takes approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.

From airports

There are bus services to Cambridge from:

Heathrow Airport (minimum 2 hours 20 minutes)
Gatwick Airport (minimum 4 hours)
Luton Airport (minimum 1 hour 40 minutes) and
Stansted Airport (minimum 50 minutes).

From Heathrow Airport, there is a direct underground (Piccadilly) line to Kings Cross. This runs every few minutes and the journey takes 50 minutes. There is also a more expensive 25 minute fast train service to Paddington, departing every fifteen minutes. From there, you will need the Hammersmith & City or Circle Line to Kings Cross. Total journey time from Heathrow to Kings Cross using this service is approximately 40 minutes.

From Gatwick Airport, the Gatwick Express train runs every few minutes to Victoria Station in central London. The journey time takes approximately 30 minutes. On arrival at Victoria Station, you should then take the Victoria line northbound underground to Kings Cross. This Victoria line train runs every few minutes and takes approximately 10 minutes. Allow 1hr for this journey from Gatwick to Kings Cross including changing trains.

Arrival by taxi

From Cambridge Train or Bus Station, take a taxi to St John's College. Taxis are usually waiting outside the station. However, if not, there are several taxi companies. Companies with a website are:

By Car

Bringing your own car is not recommended, as streets in Cambridge are narrow and traffic jams are common. However, if you wish to do so, there is limited college car parking and you will need to display a permit in the window of your car which will be emailed to you in advance of the conference.

Only a pre-booked car parking place allows you to park free of charge in the St John’s Playing Fields Car Park, opposite the college in Queen’s Road (1 on the college map). An entry to code is required to enter the car park and a parking permit must be displayed. Any cars whose registration numbers have not been given in advance will be clamped or towed away. Cars are parked at their own risk. This is an insecure car park with no CCTV.

Please note that the main conference centre, the Divinity School, is about a 10 minute walk from the car park.
