EU Digital Omnibus steams ahead
Will the Digital Omnibus simplify the European Union’s digital rulebook? Does it go too far or is it not bold enough? Laura Linkomies reports from Brussels.
The CPDP conference, held in Brussels 19-22 May, featured several sessions on the EU Digital Omnibus and from many different angles. The session which generated some heated debates saw Karolina Mojzesowicz, Deputy Head of Unit, DG JUST, European Commission, defend the proposal against some of the criticisms that have been voiced by civil society, privacy advocates and industry.
Moderated by Valentina Pavel, Senior Researcher at the Ada Lovelace Institute, the session discussed the implications of cutting red tape and boosting competitiveness for people’s fundamental rights, the European market and the EU’s sovereignty.
