Greece adopts new legislation on emerging technologies

On 27 July 2022, Greece’s parliament adopted law 4961/2022 on “Emerging information and communication technologies, strengthening digital governance and other provisions” [the New Legislation]. It has been fully in force since 1 March 2023.

Taking a technology-specific approach, the New Legislation aspires to regulate the use of AI systems mostly in the public sector, to strengthen the cyber-resilience of the public administration and to regulate specific emerging technologies that will lead towards the digital transformation of the country.

Specifically, the New Legislation is composed of three main parts.
