EDPB invites organisations to report GDPR inconsistencies



Speaking at the Privacy Laws & Business 39th International Conference in Cambridge on 6 July, Carolina Foglia of the EDPB Secretariat invited organisations to flag any inconsistencies of GDPR application either at the Board or national level via the EDPB website. This measure of extra transparency and increased stakeholder engagement stems from the Group’s so-called 2025 Helsinki Statement which aims at enhanced consistency.

“The EDPB will not respond to individual submissions, but the information received will be compiled regularly and discussed at a high level by the Board members to consider possible steps to improve consistency,” the Board says.

“We try to make the current rulebook work in practice,” Foglia said. For instance, the EDPB is currently working on joint guidance with the European Commission on the interplay between the GDPR and the EU AI Act, as well as competition law and data protection. Draft EDPB guidance on web scraping is expected imminently.

On the EU Digital Omnibus, Foglia said that the DPAs are “in favour of simplification but this cannot come at any cost”. The DPAs are strongly against the proposal to modify the definition of personal data.

She said that the European Council has not managed to reach a compromise on the Omnibus proposal yet, and that the European Parliament is not likely to form its final position until early 2027.
