Differential privacy, a mathematical definition of privacy in the context of statistical and machine learning analysis, is said to enable businesses, policymakers and researchers to analyse and share (sensitive) data, while providing strong guarantees of privacy to the individuals. This technology has been in the headlines due its multiple implementations deployed by corporations (Google, Apple, Uber, start-ups) as well as government agencies and research institutions.(1)
