Although my main area of focus is data, privacy & cyber, I have a commercial & consumer and technology background so regularly advise clients across all three practice areas.

I advise some of the world's leading companies on the adoption of global privacy strategies and on the full range of data protection/privacy issues including: data protection/privacy audits; data subject rights requests management; dealing with data breaches and cyber security incidents; extra-EEA data transfers; advising generally on data privacy policies/notices; handling Information Commissioner’s Office, and other regulatory queries/investigations; marketing/cookie issues; and, helping clients update their data protection/privacy practices in light of Brexit.
Rupert has substantial experience across Chambers’ practice areas, from commercial and commercial employment litigation to public law, procurement, data protection, and EU cases.
He specializes in data protection law, employment law, and other areas of information law. He has represented clients at all levels of the court system and has represented the ICO in several cases, so has an excellent understanding of the regulator’s perspective on employment and other issues.
Rupert has considerable trial experience both as sole counsel and within larger teams. He is also frequently involved in appellate litigation, appearing in the Supreme Court and Privy Council on seven occasions since 2015.
I advise on a wide range of employment matters with a focus on industrial relations working across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Typically my work includes advising employers on day-to-day employment law issues, handling settlement/compromise negotiations, drafting contractual documentation and policies/handbooks, redundancies (both collective and individual), auto-enrolment obligations, and acting for businesses defending Employment Tribunal claims. I also regularly advise clients on the differing requirements between GB and NI on employment law matters.
I support employers and individuals from varying sectors on a wide range of employment issues and also regularly provide bespoke training to clients on a broad range of employment law matters. I often also work with multi-national clients and my practice includes the project management of international advice.
