The Big Data Protection Research Project, sponsored by the Open University Business School, investigates how organisations can leverage big data while respecting individuals' privacy rights.  Responses are sought by 28 February 2014.

The project aims to identify the data protection compliance tools which will best protect consumers’ privacy in the era of ‘big data’. The research will also generate a number of important insights relating to the reform of the 1995 EU Data Protection Directive. It aims to reveal how organizations are reacting to some of the most controversial provisions of the proposed EU General Data Protection Regulation, and identify the opportunities and problems organizations see in the reform. In addition, the study addresses issues related to information security investments and compliance with current national data protection laws.

Participation to the Big Data Protection Project is open to any organisation, either private or public, with interests in Europe, as well as to anyone with experience in information management or data protection law. Project participants will receive a report with all the results.
