1. Travelling to the conference

Click here for information about travelling to Cambridge

Parking at the college:

Bringing your own car is not recommended, and several previous participants no longer travel by car, as streets in Cambridge are narrow and traffic jams are common. However, if you wish to do so, there is limited college car parking (50 cars) and you will need to display a permit in the window of your car which will be emailed to you in advance of the conference.

Only a pre-booked car parking place allows you to park free of charge in the St John’s Playing Fields Car Park, opposite the college in Queen’s Road (1 on the college map).  Any cars whose registration numbers have not been given in advance will be clamped or towed away. Cars are parked at their own risk. This is an insecure car park with no CCTV.

SATNAV – the postcode for Queens Road is CB3 9AQ. There is no postcode for the playing fields car park, please see the map for the exact location. Further details on how to find the Playing Fields Car Park are at www.joh.cam.ac.uk/college-car-parks#field

Please note that the main conference centre, the Fisher Building (2 on the college map), is about a 5 minute walk from the car park.

Alternative parking, although expensive, is in the 24/7 car park near the college in Park Street. See https://www.cambridge.gov.uk/park-street-car-park  for further details.

2. Arrival and Registration

Conference registration will be in the Fisher Building (2 on the college map) at the following times:

Sunday: 16:00 – 18:00
Monday: 8.00 – 17.30
Tuesday: 8.00 – 17.30
Wednesday: 8.00 – 13.00

Upon registration you will receive your conference papers and badge. It is important to wear your badge at all times as the college staff may need to be able to identify conference participants easily, for example, for meals and to gain entry to the college.

If you have registered for college accommodation, you may find it easier to bring a suitcase with wheels as some college bedrooms are up to five minutes walk from the Cripps Porters Lodge (11 on the college map) where you will need to collect your room key from.

3. WiFi Access

WiFi broadband access is available in all bedrooms as well as the main conference centre, the Fisher Building (2 on the college map), the Buttery (4 on the college map) and the Bar (10 on the college map). For those participants staying at the college, information on how to login to the network will be given out with the bedroom keys.

For those not staying at the college and wishing to access the WiFi in the Fisher Building or the Bar details will be available at the registration desk.

The Fisher Building will be open only between 08.00h. and 18.00h.

4. Bedroom/bathroom facilities

If you have booked college accommodation, please let us know immediately if you have particular requirements for example, a ground floor room. There are no lifts/elevators available and some rooms are on the 3rd floor. Please email kan.thomas@privacylaws.com with your requirements.

College bedrooms provide you with a towel and small soap but no hair dryer. All rooms have ensuite toilet/bathroom facilities. Do not be alarmed if you find two beds (or even another room with a bed), you will not be sharing with anyone else, unless you and the other person has requested it.

5. Meals

Lunches and Dinners will be served in the Hall, between Second and First Courts (6 on the college map).
