1. New Zealand Privacy Commissioner Launches Draft Security Breach Guidelines
New Zealand Privacy Commissioner Marie Shroff has published a draft guide to help the public and private sectors manage security breaches. The voluntary guidelines recommend a four-stage approach:
containing and assessing the breach's scope;
evaluating the risks;
considering notification, or actually doing it; and
adopting future prevention measures.
Shroff is considering whether New Zealand should adopt a mandatory breach notification law.
