This meeting took the form of a roundtable discussion with Spain’s Data Protection Commissioner, Professor Dr. Piñar Mañas and his senior staff. Spain has one of the most stringent enforcement systems in the EU. The meeting examined Spain’s approach to enforcement, direct marketing and cross-border data transfers. The agenda also included an introduction to Spain’s data protection law by Senor Javier Fernández-Samaniego, Attorney, Linklaters, Madrid. He provided an outline of the law and regulations; differences between Spain’s data protection law and the EU Data Protection Directive; Spain’s Security Measures Regulations; and enforcement policy.
